No Quarter Posted June 16, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2018 Hello, I bought this A-8 flight helmet at a show and was wondering if anyone had some info on it. What years were these used? What theater? etc. I can post more pictures if need be. Thanks, Jacob
Navybean Posted June 16, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2018 Summer weight helmet came out in the 30s replaced by the A-9 as the chin cup did not work well with oxygen masks. Used early in WW2 and many were converted to A-9 helmets with chin strap replacing the chin cup. You’d obviously was not convert but was used as it has had the ear cups added nice helmet. No Quarter Posted June 16, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted June 16, 2018 Thanks for the info! Would this have been used in the early Pacific battles or just used in Europe?
Navybean Posted June 16, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2018 Could have been used in both. I have P38 Group that includes one from the pacific but you can see pictures of air crews in B17s wearing this helmet. Also widely used in pilot training state side in aircraft that did not fly high enough to require oxygen.
