This is a far out guess, but I've seen a few of these late kits with the ALICE pouch, that had early QuikClot packs in them...NSN-8502 superseded NSN-8412, although 8412 was authorized as late as 2005 (some of this according to Olive-Drab, https://olive-drab.com/od_medical_ifak_postww2_ifak.php ). Otherwise, I'm not sure of the difference. Here's the 'official' content list for -8412 http://www.prc68.com/I/FAKI.shtml . I can't seem to find a list for -8502.

So the difference is only in the contents, visually the pouch that holds the plastic box stayed the same going from NSN 6545-01-094-8412 to 8502, right?

If you are talking about the Nylon case with hard plastic insert thar kit comes in two different sizes. The original size was similar to the WW II jungle first aid kit. Later in the late 80s or early 90s it was enlarged by 2 or three inches. They look the same but ones case and inset is larger than the other.

Thank you for the photos. The smaller version you guys mention has NSN 6545-180-6239 it got superseded by 6545-01-094-8412 which was enlarged by a few inches (as shown above) then that got superseded by 6545-01-521-8502. I was wondering if there was any cosmetic difference between 8412 and 8502 but I'm guessing they only changed the actual contents inside the first aid kit.

Correct Echo, there's no cosmetic difference between the carriers/cases of 8412 & 8502. Just the contents.
