somepriest Posted June 11, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2018 Greetings, I am new to the site and figured I would start with a question as you all are the specialists in this field. I have this relic in my closet and wanted to know if you all have seen anything like it. It is by no means is the normal "patch-work" of a Marine flight jacket, but a patch is there none-the-less. The jacket liner is well worn, but fortunately the leather is still supple and not brittle. So...do I leave it alone or send it for a refurb? Interestingly enough it has the signature smell of tobacco and sweat... Thank you. Priest

phantomfixer Posted June 11, 2018 Share #3 Posted June 11, 2018 I would leave it alone...your jacket though... is there anything under the collar, Not a G-1 guy but looks to be 1950s period..looks like a nice hide...enjoy it.. Not sure about the white tag on the side lining...might mark it as a post war civilian made jacket
Stony Posted June 11, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 11, 2018 Is there a painted USN or US under the collect. If so, what color is it. If not, is USN perforated next to the zipper on the gas flap? Is there a size tag in he front right pocket? If so, what does it say? The bulldog is an unofficial USMC patch and not regulation as far as I know. Wake1941 Posted June 11, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 11, 2018 It was a PX Patch so it is likely it was bought the same time as the jacket
somepriest Posted June 11, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted June 11, 2018 There are no USN or US markings under the collar or perforation on the gas flap. I checked that as well. Wish I could say yes to that question. Phantomfixer...the white tag is actually tear in the liner. The white pocket lining is showing through. No tags on the interior. Stony...I will check the pocket tonight. Priest
Stony Posted June 11, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 11, 2018 If no markings, then it's probably a civilian made jacket per the previous replies.
somepriest Posted June 11, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted June 11, 2018 How far back did the civilian manufacture of these jackets go. 50's, 60's? There are no tags anywhere on the jacket to respond to Stony, pockets or otherwise.

Priest Some times the USN under the collar is hard to see, especially the ones done in black.I have one that you cant see it as its very faint and blends in with the dark collar The waist band looks like an earlier bi-directional weave
somepriest Posted June 18, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted June 18, 2018 Doyler, I'll take a look. It's got some heavy use, but that could just be from someone who picked it up from a Vet way back when. I just don't know. Smells like it has some miles on it. In any case, thanks for the inputs. Priest
