Les George Posted June 10, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2018 The m1918 trench knife is my favorite. I have been planning a reproduction of my own for quite a while. I took an original LF&C handle and had it 3D scanned, after I spent days trying to 3D model it myself.... I got close, but not close enough. After the scan, I had a computer geek take the raw file and clean it up and fix the flaws in the original castings. Then I had the handles cast, in titanium. Because titanium is awesome. The blades are CPM 3v and the tang nut is heat treated tool steel. I made scabbards out of g10, to round it out. This is one of my favorite projects ever, I hope you enjoy the pictures

cwnorma Posted June 10, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2018 Good heavens! Those are amazing. They are "perfected" versions of the original. So the question is now what? Are you going to do a production run? Are these the only two that will ever be?

Patchcollector Posted June 10, 2018 Share #8 Posted June 10, 2018 Those are sweet. In my mind there is only one step up for these, and that's to make them 100% Titanium, leaving the blade and handle silver but with the skull crusher and other small parts blued Titanium.I would pair it with a carbon fiber sheath. Les George Posted June 10, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted June 10, 2018 Thank you all for the kind words! Good heavens! Those are amazing. They are "perfected" versions of the original. So the question is now what? Are you going to do a production run? Are these the only two that will ever be? I am making 10 and keeping 1 Now that the casting is ironed out, I may have some done in bronze too, just for fun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

doyler Posted June 12, 2018 Share #18 Posted June 12, 2018 Les Can you provide details as to the casting of the handle? Just curious about how the handle was cast hollow for the tang or did you have to machine or drill after casting? Thanks

Les George Posted June 13, 2018 Author Share #20 Posted June 13, 2018 Les Can you provide details as to the casting of the handle? Just curious about how the handle was cast hollow for the tang or did you have to machine or drill after casting? Thanks I tried to get them to cast it hollow but they didn’t want too. So I ended up drilling and machining them with my mill. Not a lot of details to give, just one long hole to drill!
