Hand painted camouflage short brim boonie hat worn by SSGT Cecil Ames on Recon Team Rattler CCN MACV-SOG Vietnam SGM Cecil Ames (Ret) was assigned to USASOC Units and served in various assignments as a Special Forces Soldier. He served multiple tours in Vietnam and other regions of Southeast Asia. SGM Ames’ (Ret) was honored with numerous awards and decorations for his valorous deeds during service, including the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Bronze Star (X2) and Vietnam Gallantry Cross. After 27 years of faithful service, SGM Ames (Ret) retired from active duty on October 1 1991 and passed away in 2017.

what are the safety pins for? is it holding it together some how? the way to tighten it or loosen it? or just there as spares in case needed in the jungle fo ripped clothing or gear? any idea?

This is a really amazing piece, better than 99% of the stuff in museums, thank you so much for posting it!

 

I believe he was on one of the marble mountains during the August 23rd 1968 attack on CCN.

 

Is that a piece of a high visibility panel inside?
