gwb123 Posted June 9, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2018 Here's a news story that came out in the last week: https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/05/us/stolen-armored-personnel-carrier-virginia-trnd/index.html?sr=fbCNN060618stolen-armored-personnel-carrier-virginia-trnd0720AMStory&utm_source=fbCNN&utm_content=2018-06-06T06%3A45%3A05&utm_term=video&utm_medium=social Apparently drugs were involved. There were similar incidents in Germany during the Cold War, which did not endear us to the locals. Blacksmith Posted June 10, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2018 The two civilian felony counts listed in the linked story are likely to pale in comparison to his UCMJ proceedings.
USARV72 Posted June 10, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2018 Big Chicken Dinner or D.D., what a maroon. We had a Spc-5 get drunk , stole a V-100, drove around the bunker line until he rolled it,IIRC he got a General Court Marshal? Sent home as PFC? Bob Hudson Posted June 10, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2018 A Guard first Lt. did it. In 1995 a Patton tank was stolen from a San Diego Guard center and caused considerable damage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Nelson_(San_Diego_Tank_Rampage)
Bluehawk Posted June 10, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 10, 2018 Cannot wait to learn what the UCMJ is going to have to say about this...
Blacksmith Posted June 10, 2018 Share #8 Posted June 10, 2018 Surprising he only lost two stripes for a stunt like that. That would have been forfeiture of all rank in my unit, a spell in the clink, and then discharge. Big Chicken Dinner or D.D., what a maroon. USARV72 Posted June 13, 2018 Share #9 Posted June 13, 2018 Happened in 72 so details hard to remember.IIRC, he had excellent record, can't remember if " dear john" was involved? He was one of the few that had military drivers license, was COs driver for a while. Think he spent the night in L.B.J. .

Story Posted September 9, 2019 Share #12 Posted September 9, 2019 The Paul Harvey - The Virginia National Guard first lieutenant accused of taking an armored personnel vehicle in 2018 was found not guilty by reason of insanity, according to reports. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Monday that Joshua Phillip Yabut, 30, was deemed delusional by mental health experts when he took the nearly 12-ton vehicle from Fort Pickett on a ride that ended in downtown Richmond. The Times-Dispatch reported Yabut was found not guilty by reason of insanity of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and violating the terms of his bond. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2019/08/19/joyriding-soldier-found-not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity-in-taking-armored-vehicle/

gomorgan Posted September 10, 2019 Share #14 Posted September 10, 2019 Yes latest Army Times has him not guilty due to his mental state, hell I could of told them he was a nut job.
Bob Hudson Posted September 10, 2019 Share #15 Posted September 10, 2019 "Yabut will be evaluated by state doctors to determine whether he should be committed indefinitely or released with conditions, according to the Times-Dispatch. A hearing date was set for Oct. 4." In today's world the VNG will probably be required to promote him to Captain to compensate for making him stress out.
