BILL THE PATCH Posted June 3, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2018 Came across this patch at my town wide garage sale today, it wasn't for sale yet. The owner didn't know much about it. So I told him I would hopefully get some info. I'm not sure about it, to me it resembles a paki made patch. It does show age but that doesn't mean much. It doesn't have the typical double bullion bdr that paki made patches have. Could it be a reunion piece? Maybe a tour jacket patch. If I can tell him a approximate value maybe he'll sell. I'll buy it provided it real and not a repo. Thanks for any help I receive.

Wake1941 Posted June 3, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2018 Looks Japanese Made as well
gwb123 Posted June 3, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 3, 2018 I was thinking Japanese made as well. These date back to the days when the exchange rate was really favorable to US Servicemen overseas, and they could afford such heavily embroidered bullion patches. vintageproductions Posted June 3, 2018 Share #8 Posted June 3, 2018 Not Japanese made, Italian / Med. made.
patches Posted June 3, 2018 Share #9 Posted June 3, 2018 Shangri-La seems to have had MED sailing in the 60s. "Between 1961 and 1970, Shangri-La alternated between deployments to the Mediterranean and operations in the western Atlantic." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Shangri-La_(CV-38)#Post-war

BILL THE PATCH Posted June 3, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted June 3, 2018 Could anyone maybe put a value on it?, I would like to tell the owner and maybe be able to purchase it. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Salvage Sailor Posted June 3, 2018 Share #13 Posted June 3, 2018 I'd pay $20 to $25 for that CIC 'Scope Dope' patch (I was one too) The Octopus is often used for a RD/OS Rate (Radarman, later Operations Specialist) and the items in it's tentacles are navigation tools. Parallel, protractor, grease pencil, DMA chart, etc. and the box is a Radar Repeater
Bearmon Posted June 4, 2018 Share #14 Posted June 4, 2018 I would think 40-60 dollars it is in great shape.
