Carl Jurrens

Army Serial Number: 19096306

Enlistment Place: Tacoma Washington

Enlistment Date: 6 Jul 1942

Released: 3 Jul 1944

Born: 21 Apr 1900

My great-grandfather served in New Guinea and was in charge of a lot of vehicles on the island. He was in his 40's and everyone called him "Pops" due to his age. Sadly his records were destroyed in the fire at the national Archives. If anyone can find any information on him or find anything that belonged to him such as medals please message me. I have asked everyone of my family members related to him about his belongings and everyone said they disappeared and have no idea where they went. I would greatly appreciate any info on his service or his belongings. Thanks.

Arlis Lorraine Jurrens Fry

Birth: Jun. 27, 1924

Avon

Bon Homme County

South Dakota, USA

Death: Jun. 28, 2012

Arlis Lorraine Fry was born on June 27, 1924, and went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2012.

She was born the daughter of Carl & Rena Jurrens in Avon, South Dakota.

She was married to James Allen Fry for 65 years, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Joyce Clapp, of OR; her children: Dan (Debbie), of Marysville, Jim (Linda), of Snohomish, Jan (Stan) Aukland, of Surprise, AZ, and Jeanie (Glenn) Yocum, of Kirkland; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and she was a "special" mother to Shirley (Boyce) Lambe, of Cle Elum.

Arlis was born in the small town of Avon, South Dakota, and as a young girl, her family moved to Seattle, WA. Her father was a farmer & later an automobile mechanic. Her mother was a homemaker.

Arlis graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle. Shortly after that she met the love of her life, Jim Fry (a very handsome Navy man), on the beach at Green Lake, WA. They were married in Oklahoma City, OK, on November 17, 1942.

Her main interests were in God & her family. She worked often, but raising her family in a Christian home always came first. She was a great cook, loved sewing, loved playing games, loved having people over for a meal, loved to read, but most of all, loved to travel.

Jim & Arlis traveled many miles with either a truck & trailer or a motorhome all over the United States, including Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. They also went on many cruises & traveled abroad to Europe, England, China, the Middle East, the Holy Lands, etc. But their most favorite place to go was Hawaii!

Her working days began once all her children were in school. She worked as a cook for the school district, as a secretary for several companies and for Northshore School District, and then retired as the school secretary at Cottage Lake Elementary in Woodinville, WA.

Jim & Arlis lived in North Seattle, where they built their first home by themselves. They then moved to Oak Harbor, WA, where they ran their own business. They were incredible youth group leaders at Oak Harbor First Baptist Church, where they touched & changed the lives of many young people.

Following the graduation of both their sons from Oak Harbor High School, they moved back to the Seattle area where they lived in the Meadowdale area. After their daughters graduated, they moved to several different locations, always trying to find "just the right spot".

Her retirement years were spent traveling, doing mobile missionary work all over the United States & Mexico, & later spending the winter months in their little home in Happy Trails, Arizona, for 6 years. They then moved back "home" to the Northwest where they spent their last years.

Arlis loved Jesus and had a very strong faith that she shared as often as she could. She had lots of friends that she kept in touch with from all over the United States, many of whom she met as they did their much loved missionary work.

She was a longtime member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where her children were all spiritually raised. During retirement years, they were members of Overlake Christian Church in Kirkland, WA, where they volunteered much of their time.

Arlis had a zest for life…and every moment was filled with something. It was never boring at the Fry home! Her Godly life touched many lives and she will be very missed, but she is now in her Heavenly home, reunited with her husband, praising God together again!

Graveside services will be held at 11:15 am, Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Northview Community Church in Mill Creek, WA.

That should help!

You could contact the King County Recorder's Office and see if they have your great-grandfather's discharge on record there. Vets are encouraged to have their discharges recorded at the courthouse for ease of applying for VA benefits. As a next-of-kin, you shouldn't have any problem requesting a copy.

I just sent them an Email. All I can do now is hope and pray they have something. Thanks for the help.
