Jayhawker353 Posted May 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2018 I can't say that I am at all familiar with this type of spurs. These come from a long time local collection and I have no idea whether they are original CW Cavalry issue, later "Indian Wars" era issue or are a modern reproduction. Does anyone know the features to look for when identifying these?

illinigander Posted July 14, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 14, 2018 The spurs seem to be CW pattern. Perhaps the rowels are a little large? I am sure there were plenty of CW spurs in stock to supply US mounted needs for years to come. The late post war spurs I have are: a pair of RIA dated 1905, and a pair, one dated 1903 and one 1907, both marked RIA. I have a brass pair with buttons that have a keeper buckle attached for the boot strap. They are marked US and with inspector initials. As to the 11 on yours they could identify any number of things. The two CW spurs I dug both were the same pattern but with no markings. Of course by the 1912 change all the spurs were nickel plated. If it wasn't so hot I would drag out my Steefen books which have more info. Illinigander
