COAST GUARD VIETNAM PLAQUES & BELT BUCKLES

Recommended Posts

These are some plaques that I have picked up over the years. This plaque was presented to Rear Admiral Kenneth L. Veth. He was Commander Naval Forces Vietnam 1967-1968 when he was relieved by Vice Admiral Elmo Zumwalt. I believe this was presented to him in 1968 about the time he was relieved.

This is the same type as the Veth plaque but dates from Feb. 1970 and has the original box. I doubt many of those have survived.

This is an odd plaque. The beercan is hand painted and the wood is 1 1/4 inches thick. I don't know if the wood was replaced.

This is a painted plaster Squadron 3 plaque. The wood is not original but patterned after an original one.

Same as the previous plaque but done better. The plaster is set into the wood instead of applied to it.

Heavy solid brass Squadron 3 plaque. It measures 4 3/4 inches across and 3/8 inches thick.

Small plaque for the USCGC Half Moon dated 1967-1968. Plaque only measures 4 7/8 inches by 3 1/4. Made to sit on a desk or shelf.

Obviously these aren't plaques but I am just throwing them in for the heck of it. Squadron One and Three buckles.

I think I put this in the wrong area. I don't know if it is possible to move it or not. Sorry.

firefighter

Great looking plaques and buckles, Except for the two buckles That are #1 in the 1st & 2nd rows, which look like ZIPPO buckles, the others are PI made.

In reference to the painted plaster ships plaques. If I recall, both the CGC Jarvis in the early 1970s and tge CGC Chase in the late 1970s, had the plaster mold kept in the CPO lounge.. If crewmembers wanted to make up a morale gift, they checked out the mold ang got the plaster of paris mix and let their creative juices run amok. Neat little gift to home and passed the time trying for the smoothest finish..

@Condor -- Cool Belt buckles. Here's a thread to Philippine made buckles which has a number of Coast Guard buckles posted. Salvage Sailor linked your post to that thread. I'd love to see close-up pictures of buckle #2 in Row 1 as well as #1 in Row 3 and the buckle in Row 4.

PS - The plaques in this thread are really neat too.
