Edelweisse Posted April 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2018 Hi Folks: I recently found this US Navy WAVES Summer White jacket and slacks set in a Thrift store on a USAF base. I was surprised to see it and since my Mother was in the WAVES in WWII....I just HAD to buy it. It hasn't been worn or tailored to fit....the cuffs on the jacket are in-sewn along with the seams on the slacks. Both the jacket and slacks have the maker tags. Based upon my limited knowledge of Post WWII WAVES items...because of the gold buttons...I think these are 1950s period??? Jacket is sz: 14R Maker: "Flying Cross" while the slacks are sz: 13R by "Patriot"

67Rally Posted April 7, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 7, 2018 That jacket is from the late-80s onward. The NAVEDTRA on the tag referenced the CNT material formulation.
WWII Legacy Girl Posted April 7, 2018 Share #4 Posted April 7, 2018 Definitely pretty recent - not really vintage.

manayunkman Posted April 7, 2018 Share #6 Posted April 7, 2018 Polyester took off in the 60s from Celenese Chemical Co. Arnel-Fortrel. But the tag narrows it down.

These are worn by officers and CPOs now. But, yes, currently worn. The Navy went to CNT early 1980s.
