walika Posted April 2, 2018 Share #4 Posted April 2, 2018 The only known WWII-era patch for this squadron is PX style, as shown in Millstein. See below, and post here. My feeling is the patch shown in posts #1-3 is either not genuine, or if genuine perhaps post-war or Korean War era.Between WW-II and the Korean Conflict, VMF-513 operated from MCAS El Toro, California. Transitioning to the F4U-5N, the squadron was redesignated VMF(N)-513 (Night Fighters). In August 1950, the squadron deployed to Japan under operational control of the U.S. 5th Air Force. As mentioned in other threads, some of the patches from the collection currently being sold on eBay are not authentic WWII pieces, and some are misidentified.
