EricJK Posted March 28, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2018 #6444. I looked everywhere at the National Archives website for the directory so I wouldn't have to ask. No luck. This one came with what I believe is a rare ribbon also. Thanks in advance! Eric
KurtA Posted March 28, 2018 Share #2 Posted March 28, 2018 Unfortunately, the list of awardees ends several hundred below 6444. Still a nice original issue medal.
mrwarbooty Posted March 29, 2018 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2018 What time period would this medal have been issued? Early 30's?
EricJK Posted March 29, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted March 29, 2018 Kurt, Thanks for the info. So is it safe to infer that beyond a certain point they stopped issuing medals or is it just that those records don't exist for various potential reasons? KurtA Posted March 29, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 29, 2018 What time period would this medal have been issued? Early 30's? The last recorded issued medal was No. 6179 on Dec 22 1925. So, if it was issued, probably late 20's.
KurtA Posted March 29, 2018 Share #6 Posted March 29, 2018 Kurt, Thanks for the info. So is it safe to infer that beyond a certain point they stopped issuing medals or is it just that those records don't exist for various potential reasons? Eric The Call of Duty book states they stopped issuing them after No. 6179. In Col Gleim's pamphlet on the subject, he suggests medals above 6179 may have been issued, but the records lost. USMCR79 Posted March 30, 2018 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2018 Records not lost - Prior to 1925 medals issue came from the US Army Adjutant Generals Office (they kept records) After 1925 medal issuance was done by the US Army Quartermaster - they did not keep records.
