Go to this link and scroll down to find the summary. Lists the different US Army parkas by date and number. I can't find your number, but it might be one that they don't have a number for. Looks like it must be similar to the second one on that list.

Could this be a early experimental parka? I need to find A photo of this parka somwhere. I've looked on the internet but haven't found one.

What you have there is the "Parka, Reversible, Fur-Trimmed" (the spec tag from a '42-dated example below), which was produced from 1941 into early '42. It is the close ancestor of the "Parka, Ski, Reversible", which was made shorter, and without fur around the cuffs.

This Parka was directly preceded by a non-reversible model made of cotton duck, below at right.

Both Parkas in the photo were made in 1941.

Shown here next to the "Parka, Ski, Reversible", introduced in 1942, on the right.

FSSF seen in Italy.

Common to see the Fur trimmed Parkas in the Force. Both models were widely issued and worn.Often the Parkas were worn short by pulling up the extra length and folding under the waist belt or cartridge belt etc.

There is a first pattern ski parka as well. Its reversible, has zipper neck opening, and no fur on hood or cuffs. The Force and 10th mountain had these early.

Great pic, Ron- those Parkas did get a lot of use in the Italian Campaign, as well as the Northern Territories. And they are super-warm.

Those early no-fur Parkas are tough to come by, especially the ones with a zippered neck.
