Kadet Posted March 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2018 This Ike, and some khaki shirts and pants ran several times on Ebay. I finally took a chance on them after figuring out the name of the owner from the laundry #. As it was auctioned, the jacket was in a sorry state. It was heavily wrinkled, covered in a about a pound of pet hair and was missing the CIB. When I pulled the Ike out of the box, I heard a distinctive "clank" in the pocket. Sure enough there was the CIB, shooting badge, ruptured duck pin and a bonus in the form a killer two piece CIB. After about an hour with a lint brush and steam iron, the jacket looks great. The really interesting thing is the artillery collar brass. This insignia was practically corroded to the jacket, so seems original to it. Interesting NARA research project. jguy1986 Posted March 24, 2018 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2018 Nice work on the ID, I figured out it was him too based on the AD ribbon. I believe he was from Lynn, MA. I was about to hit the BIN but you narrowly beat me to it, hahaha.
Kadet Posted March 24, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted March 24, 2018 Small world! I went back to the seller after the auction and confirmed the name we had figured out. We both got it right! They knew the full name but didn't want to put it online. She was shocked I had figured it out from the numbers...
Kadet Posted March 24, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted March 24, 2018 This is the auction pic for the before and after. Glad I was able to resurrect this one!
BILL THE PATCH Posted March 24, 2018 Share #9 Posted March 24, 2018 Nice pickup, how we're able to determine the full name?, I mean everytime I try to look up laundry#'s I don't have luck. Did you know the state?, I'm only asking so I can learn. Nice pocket finds, two piece cib, you can't beat that. Kadet Posted March 24, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted March 24, 2018 Well...the seller gave the first name in the auction, so it was a matter of looking for men under the # F8307 named Harry. There were two, only one of which enlisted before Pearl Harbor and would have been entitled to the AD ribbon on the uniform. Also, many 26th ID men were from Mass. and New England, so the Boston connection made perfect sense...
BILL THE PATCH Posted March 24, 2018 Share #11 Posted March 24, 2018 Oh ok, congrats on that pickup. When you use the enlistedman site do you use only the number or do you have to use the letter. Sent from my XT1031 using Tapatalk
Kadet Posted March 24, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted March 24, 2018 This is the best resource. It lets you search by name, the full ASN or a letter/number laundry # http://wwii-enlistment.com/search/
BILL THE PATCH Posted March 25, 2018 Share #13 Posted March 25, 2018 That's what I use, but I'm asking g when you put the laundry# in do you use the letter before the number?, For example if I was searching my dad's number would I go E 0989 or just 0989 Sent from my XT1031 using Tapatalk
