Quest Master Posted March 14, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2018 I now have two exact M-1 Helmets produced by Schlueter Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri that can be used to define the cross-over period of characteristics for 1945 production helmets, both being from Heat Lot 489A. The first M-1 Helmet I have was produced roughly January of 1945 with a heat lot number 489A. This is an early transitional helmet with stainless steel rim (1943-12/1944 production) but with seam in the rear (January through August 1945 production). Swivel suspension loops with original Olive Drab #7 chin strap and black steel flat buckle. Original interior and exterior olive drab paint. The second M-1 Helmet I have was also produced roughly January of 1945 also with a heat lot number 489A. This example has a steel rim (produced from January through August 1945) with a seam in the rear. Swivel suspension loops with original Olive Drab #7 chin strap and black steel flat buckle. Original interior and exterior olive drab paint. The inside black ink stamped HQ 3-110 and -51. It would seem that at Schlueter Heat Lot 489A, the change from a stainless steel edge to a steel edge was made, with the seam in the rear.
Pegasus6 Posted March 15, 2018 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2018 Hello There, Do we know the transition period of S. from FB-SB and OD3 to OD7? I have a beautiful near mint S. FB OD7... I can get the heat number later today. -Peg
