R Michael Posted November 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2008 Hello all I recieved in the mail today a nice scrapbook/photo album from a fellow that was in the 542nd engineer boat & shore regt. Anyway was giving it a quick look and noticed this particular P-38. It is major Maguires bird. He was a medal of honor recipient as well as having an airbase named for him. I was happy to say the least especially after I let an MP's album go 5 years or so ago that i picked up early in my photo collecting days that had a photo of maguire in his P-38. well here is 1 of 2 photos of this bird. Enjoy! Mike
Lee Ragan Posted November 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2008 Major Thomas McGuire is America's second highest scoring ace of all time with 38 air-to-air victories over Japanese aircraft in WWII. He was killed in action in 1945 in a dog fight when his plane stalled out at low altitude and crashed.
