Double_Canister Posted February 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2018 Browsing previous topics, whink seems to be consistently considered as the best way to remove rust from helmets. Does anyone know a better alternative to it for dealing with rust stains on web gear?
huntssurplus Posted February 20, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2018 I would recommend not removing rust at all but rather keep the helmet in a low moisture room temperature room. That is the best way to preserve it! Hunt
Bugme Posted February 20, 2018 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2018 Whink, while not the perfect product, is the best we have found thus far for our needs. Whink was actually designed for getting rust out of fabrics. Being careful with it and not letting it soak long is the key.
Blacksmith Posted February 20, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2018 As Bugme said, works great, but go slow. Like woodworking, it's hard to put it back.
Blacksmith Posted February 20, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 20, 2018 If you read the OP's question, he wasn't asking whether he should or shouldn't, and it wasn't a helmet question. He's asking about removing rust stains from web gear. I would recommend not removing rust at all but rather keep the helmet in a low moisture room temperature room. We helmet collectors tend to think it was made just for us.
