Hey guys,

I'm going to find myself in Philly this weekend so I was wondering if there was anywhere I should check out. Also wondering if there are any museums or historical places in particular.

Thanks,

Hunt

Lucky 7th Armored

Hey Hunt,

The National Constitution Center is pretty good. For more of a militaria related trip, you could check out the USS New Jersey across the bridge. I believe it is open on the weekends.

If I think of anything else I will add it today.

Hello Hunt,

Theres not that much for WWII but here are some links for museums. Of course there is Independence park and all that surrounds that historic area. Theres the new American Revolution Museum, the battleship New Jersey, Valley Forge National Park, etc. I hope this is helpful. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks guys will check these out, I know about the WW1 destroyer and WW2 submarine at the harbor so that is definitely on my list, sounds like there is a lot of stuff to do.

Thanks again!

Lot's of expensive antique stores near the pier where the flag ship of the Great White Fleet USS Olympia is docked.

If you can travel 45 minutes or so you could go to the Adamstown flea markets where there is plenty of militaria for sale.

I'll give you specifics if you are going.

WWI destroyer? Do you mean the Span Am USS Olympia? I didn't think there were any WWI destroyers that had been preserved anywhere, let alone Philadelphia.

I guess that is what I meant, the USS Olympia was decommissioned in 1922 though, so it was still a commissioned warship until then.

Not much in the city limits for militaria (a couple hit or miss thrift shops). Lot's of antique shops in the suburbs of Philly.

If you have nothing to do Sunday morning, head up to Renningers in Adamstown, PA, about an hour NW of Philly. Huge indoor/ouotdoor antique market. Also, Adamstown itself has antique shops/malls throughout. - https://renningers.net/index.php/main-locations/adamstown/adamstown-home

Oh, and if you're going to get a Cheesesteak, avoid Pat's and Geno's. Best Cheesesteak is Dalessandro's in the Roxborough part of Philly.

I would have to agree, there is not much in the city, it's been pretty sparse. I would agree with Mason about Geno's too. If you can get to the Reading Terminal Market DiNic's makes a good Roast Pork sandwich.

Philly is better for eating and sight seeing than hunting militaria.

I have to agree. It has been that way for decades since the old style surplus shops went commercial.

By all means, get out to the country flea markets if you can. Or enjoy the museums if you can't. Either way plenty to do.

As far as cheesesteaks, pizzas and hoagies... every Mom and Pop shop has their own variation... you just can't go wrong where ever you go.

If you get there real early there are always vendors outside at Black Angus, just a couple of miles down from Renningers.

They bring all their weeks pickings and they set up rain shine freezing hot.

Some great things show up year round.

By early I mean before 4 am.

Thanks for all the tips guys! Going to go down and see all the ships today so that will be fun, definitely will check out done of the places mentioned! I have been to Renningers and Black Angus before back in early July, had a lot of fun and of course bought a lot of militaria if I have time I might go back but I leave Sunday night so I might want to do some more sight seeing instead before I leave.

I’ll look to where you guys mentioned for cheese steaks too, you just can’t go to Philly and not eat one.

Thanks again guys,

Hunt
