INIMICUS Posted February 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2018 these came from an 11th air assault div (test) officer / probable later advisor to arvn laos and thais. a bit faded but what struck me is the lack of blacks ('cept for the pocket ink stain.) top button exposed and bracket for the brass talon zipper pull stamped '42.' (?) so, early/experimental pattern before the 'black lightning bolt' erdl pattern was standardized? thanks stand by for another pic...

FIGMO Posted February 12, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 12, 2018 These pants are quite interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a rip resistant pair with no black in them. Thanks for posting. I will be looking at early ERDLs with much closer attention from now on.
Ewart Posted February 12, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 12, 2018 I'm confused, there is the normal black in there. It's just heavily faded.
doyler Posted February 12, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 12, 2018 I see a hint of black here and there as well..
INIMICUS Posted February 12, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted February 12, 2018 thanks fellas - so I turned them inside out and there's still practically no black showing (again save for the ink stain). and is this for sure normal ERDL or, if we're lucky, some 'trial-basis' as-yet-unidentified pattern? what do you make of the extra photos, please? Ewart Posted February 12, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 12, 2018 I can still see the regular black patterns even when you've turned them inside out. As much as you want them to be an experimental version of ERDL they are just faded early dated trousers, nothing more I'm afraid.
Mitch Posted February 12, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 12, 2018 This is the inside of a mint pair. It would be hard to find the dark color even then. Yours just seem to be very faded.

bravo_2_zero Posted February 28, 2018 Share #14 Posted February 28, 2018 Here's the progrrssion: - Vietnam era ERDL - white labels and slant pockets on the shirts, zippers on the pants - RDF ERDL - white labels and straight pockets, buttons on the pants - Woodland - green labels Th 1975 stuff is a grey are as theres no defined print until about 1980. The RDF was basically made from anything left over from Vietnam stock piles of cloth inc non ripstop poplin , lime , brown , delta etc it wasnt really standardised till about 1979/80 when the green backed ERDL was produced and more woodland ( as we know today ) colour hues started to become the norm.
