Browsing the internet and came across this great period photo of a Marine officer wearing the full size French officer EGA. First photo I have seen of one of these in wear.

Great portrait!!!

 

Looks like a Silver Star on his chest... if so, that would date this photo to the 1930s.

 

Of course, I'd be interested to know if it was something else. But there was a pretty strong veteran's movement in the 1930s, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was from that time period, with the veteran proudly wearing his new medal coverted from a Citation Star awarded during WW1.

Definitely 1930's, the Chateau Thierry and Verdun medals and looks like,perhaps the ST Mihiel medal as well. That is one great photo for sure, all the bells and whistles. This Marine was there for all of it. Thanks for sharing this! Kevin

I assume he got his PHs through the Army because of the 2d Division affiliations, as I've read most Marines in WWI did when the medal came out, as the USMC was still only recognizing the sleeve stripes.
