tmsea Posted February 10, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2018 Looking to find out if anyone has ever seen a patch like this. This is a picture of my grandfather, US Army Air Corp. He served in Alaska during the Aleutian Campain 1942-9143. I don't know much else but I"m trying to identify his unit perhaps by the patch. Thanks!Tina
Johnny Signor Posted February 17, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2018 This is one I have also been trying to find out what unit it is, most likely I would think either an Aleutian based or somewhere of the same climate with the "walrus" design,
tmsea Posted February 28, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted February 28, 2018 It makes me think that they were from the Catalina PBYs that flew in the Aleutians. They are similar to the UK's Supermarine Walrus https://ww2db.com/aircraft_spec.php?aircraft_model_id=219 http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/history-up-close/aircraft-in-spotlight/catalina-detail/ I thought they were only flown by Navy personnel but it turns out the AAF could have flown them as well. Where did you find these? Thanks
Johnny Signor Posted March 7, 2018 Share #4 Posted March 7, 2018 I found the one image online, and Yes the AAF did fly the Catalina as the OA-
