Very close in looks like my 13th Regiment helmet posted earlier in this thread Eric. I have seen another like yours a few years ago also.

C. Roelens Posted February 7, 2015 Share #235 Posted February 7, 2015 Outstanding! That's a tough one to find, and the overall condition would be near impossible to upgrade. Good job Eric. Chuck

LegGrunt71 Posted April 15, 2015 Share #237 Posted April 15, 2015 Here's miy WWI USMC helmet to add to the discussion. I don't have any idea which USMC unit this is attributed to. So if any of you experts can tell me I would appreciate it.
Hessian Posted April 15, 2015 Share #238 Posted April 15, 2015 That would be 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment or "2/6" Great score!

warguy Posted August 15, 2015 Share #240 Posted August 15, 2015 Here is my latest. Love the patina on and around the ega. Un-identified, but was given directly by the family to a new friend who acquired it twenty years ago. A trade added it to my collection. I know at least one other has been posted previously on this thread. This is the 15th Separate Battalion. Kevin

Oregon1911 Posted November 20, 2015 Share #244 Posted November 20, 2015 Great piece Kevin. This makes six (6) now that I have seen of these painted exactly the same way. Have never seen one painted any other way that I thought was real. Here is another one of mine (in additional to Lt. C0verdell's. I found this one several years ago in a local museum. They just wanted a representative WW1 helmet so I traded them an unpainted one + $100 donation for this one. Well, I now own it! Kew-el! robinb Posted November 22, 2015 Share #246 Posted November 22, 2015 I'm not sure if these two qualify for this thread, but here they are anyway. Indian head on a green cross, and on a shell. The shell is named to Philsin. That helmet has also been painted brown.
Oregon1911 Posted December 4, 2015 Share #247 Posted December 4, 2015 Hi Robin, The green cross is an Army Sanitation Train helmet while the green shell is an Army 17th Field Artillery Supply Company helmet. Nice helmets though they might be more appropriate in this thread - http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4139-wwi-painted-helmets/page-
ZeroAlpha Posted June 20, 2016 Share #248 Posted June 20, 2016 Mine is part of a father / son pair. It belonged to a Cpl. Robert E. Odell, 5th Marine Regimental Clerk
Eric Queen Posted June 20, 2016 Share #249 Posted June 20, 2016 Interesting helmet. Except for the odd multi-colored border, this seems to be done the same way as all of the 8th (MG) Co. helmets. The Indian is an exact match and the color seems to be purple not black. I took a look and indeed Odell was in the 8th Co. if even for a short time. This must have been when he had his helmet painted. My guess is the name inside and border highlights were added way after the war. Perhaps for a parade in the 40's? When did the term "WW1" first start to see use (vs. Great War)?
Eric Queen Posted June 20, 2016 Share #250 Posted June 20, 2016 For those who did not see, there was another 8th Co. helmet on eBay just a couple weeks ago.
