horridohutch Posted February 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2018 I just picked this helmet up this weekend with some other goodies, this by far is the pick of the litter. It is a very well used AN-6542 with the proper N288s-27405 contract for WW2. It also has the correct Lip mic components for WW2 use.... the M5A mic, MX-314UR boom and the MT-368/UR attachment to the helmet. The crimp on label on the microphone cable is hard to read but I can make out M5A/UR, 10a (s) -3173, CW. I am hoping I am good for a proper WW2 issue helmet. The earphones are also the US Navy ANB-H-1A CTE... The pictures are big, for detail... so I have had to load in separate replys.

Jumpin Jack Posted February 6, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 6, 2018 This is a new one for me as I have never come across one. I like it a lot. Thanks for showing. Jack
jerry_k Posted February 6, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 6, 2018 Hi. It is a WW2 contraced helmet with WW2 contaced NOa(S) boom mic. which is hard to find. The earphones are a little bit mistery in community. In my opinion they are more post war used than WW2. Never seen one at war time pic, but never say never. BlueBookGuy Posted February 6, 2018 Share #11 Posted February 6, 2018 Shouldn't the ANB-H-1 A be straight-sided? At least the 'US NAVY' marking clearly indicates these are for Navy use, as are the other 'A's wich nare made in metal.
jerry_k Posted February 6, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 6, 2018 Straight side ANB-H1A are earlier version...
bazelot Posted February 6, 2018 Share #13 Posted February 6, 2018 That is a great setup. Everything is WWII except the cord for the receivers, even though as Jerry pointed out it is still a bit murky in my mind whether that particular Telephonics cord was made in WWII. I do know that Paul found one in its original box and they had a post war contract number. They could have had an earlier contract but I never saw one. I actually just bought the exact same setup with a very nice modification added to it. I will post pics in the helmet thread whenever I get a chance. horridohutch Posted February 6, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted February 6, 2018 Here is a picture of James Duffy from my collection, it almost looks like he has the same kind of wiring harness on his helmet as the Telephonics? This is also assuming that this is a wartime photo.... proof that the harness was used during the war?

bazelot Posted February 7, 2018 Share #16 Posted February 7, 2018 What you see on that picture is the short wartime TH37 receivers. From that side they look the same but from the other side they look completely different
bazelot Posted February 7, 2018 Share #17 Posted February 7, 2018 Look at the pics of the last helmet on this thread, you will see the difference with your plug: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/62995-some-of-my-wwii-naval-aviator-flight-helmets/page-51 THe short one is WWII the long one is in all likelihood post war
horridohutch Posted February 7, 2018 Author Share #18 Posted February 7, 2018 So post war then, its still a great helmet and best of all straight from the woodwork in its natural state. Also found together with this were two of the HS headsets albeit with the 388 contract boom/mic etc. Two flight suits, a 288 contract flight jacket, kneeboard and dead reckoning computer...... not bad for sitting in traffic after work Friday. The jacket is super worn but not tore up, the cuffs and waistband are pretty beat. The kneeboard is 1950s but dead NOS still in its issue bag with pad of paper and original pencil. Over all I am happy though I was hoping this was a full on WW2 helmet. It makes sense with the other items it was found with. Thank you guys, I appreciate your comments and look forward to seeing the new stuff as it gets posted. I have over this last year really liked this helmet forum... a lot of great guys!
