jprostak Posted February 1, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 1, 2018 I'm as far from being a knife guy as you can get, but I'd like someone to tell me why this trench knife is going for so much money. $577 with 2 days left. https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW1-1918-Knife/362225584992?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
Ronald Posted February 1, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 1, 2018 I don't know! It is a repro as you can see JAPAN on the blade couple that with Potamac Arms (which sold repros) someone is spending a lot of money for junk.

TrenchRat Posted February 1, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 1, 2018 Ughhh...what a shame... If "Japan" isn't enough of a hint, what would be???
RustyCanteen Posted February 1, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 1, 2018 To play devil's advocate, could the high bids be due to someone wanting it since it is still boxed and with invoice? While it is not a US issue knife, perhaps someone is looking to replace one they had 50 years ago?
john k Posted February 1, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 1, 2018 Or shill bidding
SKIPH Posted February 1, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 1, 2018 Good grief ! Somebody got ripped off . Be prepared to see a rush of repro MK1s for sale, with insane Buy Now prices. I bought one just like it about 40 years ago for about $10, and that was high. It does look like shill bidding. SKIP
tankerman Posted February 1, 2018 Share #8 Posted February 1, 2018 I like the "no other markings" .....what about JAPAN can not be read? I dunno
DRE66 Posted February 2, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 2, 2018 Wow, I have one of those repo's from the 1970's, maybe it's time to Ebay it.
knucvks7 Posted February 2, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2018 I agree with RustyCanteen. The original packing is driving the price up.
doyler Posted February 2, 2018 Share #11 Posted February 2, 2018 I was thinking J.A.PAN was a rare maker... Seriously though maybe someone is looking at this as a example of of "Vietnam era private purchase knife" in the packing as it appears the invoice is dated 1966.I know a couple vets who sent off and got these out of a gun magazine and had them in Vietnam. Cromwell Posted February 2, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 2, 2018 These were used as trade fodder by sog type persons,I gave never seen one in box. Price is high imo
knucvks7 Posted February 2, 2018 Share #13 Posted February 2, 2018 A lot of times the blades would be changed and were fitted with leather replacement scabbards by troops in South East Asia.
1515art Posted February 2, 2018 Share #14 Posted February 2, 2018 Hi everyone, I've had my trench knife for a long time and first started looking at the prices on the web about 10 years ago out of curiosity. I was really surprised to see how much they were going for. It seems parts can bring a couple hundred, very poor condition knives I see sold in the $400 range and as condition improves so goes the sales price, the highest sale price I've seen is around $1000 for a 95% condition genuine lf&c 1918 complete with blade scabbard that was missing pins. I've watched a similar blade remain listed on one of the trader sites for around $1495 and a slightly better knife for sale for around $1695 if I'm remembering correctly both listed for sale for around a year that I've seen and both still available last I looked. I agree, definitely something fishy...
