hink441 Posted January 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2018 Found this one yesterday. It is a six foot fireman's pike pole. It is marked "U. S. A. Q. M. C.". I believe this mark is for the US Army Quartermaster Corp. I have seen this mark on many pieces of equipment before but I had not ever seen a QM marked piece of firefighting equipment. It is old and has a wood handle.
hink441 Posted January 21, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted January 21, 2018 Pole is entirely painted red and has seen some heat in the past.

hink441 Posted January 21, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted January 21, 2018 Here is a link describing the Quartermaster Corps' role in firefighting: http://www.firefighters.mil-fire.net/pages/history2.html That is a great link Major Z !! Thank you. According to the link, this pike pole would definetly be pre WW2, and possibly dates to the 1920s. Chris

hink441 Posted March 2, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted March 2, 2018 Thanks for the comments fellas. I did not immediately realize it was an Army pole at first. It wasn't until after I bought the pike pole and was loading it into the back of the truck did I realize what the QMC mark was. Sometimes I am just a little bit slow!! zoli Posted March 14, 2018 Share #8 Posted March 14, 2018 that's a real neat item. I am a retired firefighter and love to see stuff like this. Wondering after enlisting how they became firefighters in the Army back then? were they assigned that position?
