hzamar Posted January 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2018 I bought a patch blanket today but I don't think it is an older blanket as there are a few merrowed edge patches on it (the Ranger scroll and diamond). It looks like someone's more modern attempt at making a patch blanket. There were some neat theater made patches but they are in rough shape. I'll probably cut the patches off and sell them and I was wondering what anyone could tell me about these 2 large patches. Thanks in advance for any ideas on the 2 large patches labelled Air Force and shown below. Herb

firefighter Posted January 6, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 6, 2018 Nice blanket. The VALOR, if i remember right, is a fighter squadron. The other also looks like one. The one patch marked 1st Spec Svc is actually Special Forces and looks either 1st twill or vietnam made.
Randy Posted January 7, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2018 The Indian patch is the 404th Fighter Squadron. Right after the war it was redesignated the 186 FS and allotted to the ANG in Montana. Randy
R. Watkins Posted January 14, 2018 Share #7 Posted January 14, 2018 Randy has the same information I have on this design. It was the squadrons early insignia when the unit was still stateside. After deployment to the ETO with the Ninth AF, the 404thFS adopted a different design. Neither of these emblems was ever officially approved.
