P-59A Posted January 3, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2018 Anybody have any thoughts as to what this is off of?
phantomfixer Posted January 3, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 3, 2018 judging from the hardware...it is not a very large window? 12x14 or so? I like the knock outs in the upper corners..clearance for tube frame/mount...looks like an attachment point behind the knock out... no idea though about airframe...but cool display piece
Bluehawk Posted January 3, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 3, 2018 Uh-oh, NOW you've gone and done it! First I thought maybe A-10 center front windshield, but no. Then I thought B-52 tail gunner position somewhere, maybe. I'm hooked. Must find.
manayunkman Posted January 3, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 3, 2018 Looks blue for a Navy plane. How big is it?
P-59A Posted January 4, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted January 4, 2018 Looks blue for a Navy plane. How big is it? The blue is from that tarp. Its more of a dark O.D. Its an exterior part and my thinking was if it was jet age it would not be painted...just a thought. Jet age zinc chromate isn't dark.
P-59A Posted January 4, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted January 4, 2018 Uh-oh, NOW you've gone and done it! First I thought maybe A-10 center front windshield, but no. Then I thought B-52 tail gunner position somewhere, maybe. I'm hooked. Must find. The A-10 was a painted bird...this came off of a painted bird. It's driving me nuts too! P-59A Posted January 4, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted January 4, 2018 The frame out side to outside is a taste over 32 inch's tall (not counting the parts beyond the frame)
phantomfixer Posted January 4, 2018 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2018 Looks to be a quick attachment window...few attachment points....and interior protected from slipstream....exterior window would have more attachpoints....unless maybe a helicopter or other low speed aircraft... You come up with some cool aircraft parts....

pararaftanr2 Posted January 4, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 4, 2018 Since it's 1 3/4 inches thick, and weighs almost 22 pounds, isn't it more likely to be armored glass from a defensive position on an aircraft, or a cockpit windscreen? My first thought was a B-29 tail gun, but I think it is too small for that.
P-59A Posted January 9, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted January 9, 2018 While this is not the Armored glass in question I think the paint may indicate WW2 German.
P-59A Posted January 9, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted January 9, 2018 P-38? FW 190?
hink441 Posted January 9, 2018 Share #14 Posted January 9, 2018 I still think it looks like Navy paint.
P-59A Posted January 9, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted January 9, 2018 It sold for 315.00...blew me out of the water. I saw pics of WW2 German aircraft with front armored glass not much different than this. The pics were too large for me to post. This photo shows the green better. phantomfixer Posted January 9, 2018 Share #16 Posted January 9, 2018 I think the early P38 and P40s had a drop in though again...not the window in question...but design is similar...lending to the protective window
