Salvage Sailor Posted August 22, 2019 Author Share #27 Posted August 22, 2019 USCGC CHINCOTEAGUE (WAVP-375) ex-USS Chincoteague (AVP-24) Barnegat class seaplane tender in service 1943 to 1972 Chincoteague was in commission from 1943 to 1946, performing her World War II service in the Pacific. She was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard postwar as USCGC Chincoteague (WAVP-375), later WHEC-375, and was in commissioned Coast Guard service from 1949 to 1972. She was transferred to South Vietnam in 1972 and served in the Republic of Vietnam Navy as the frigate RVNS Lý Thường Kiệt (HQ-16). Upon the collapse of the South Vietnamese government at the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, she fled to the Philippines. She served in the Philippine Navy from 1975 to 1985 as the frigate RPS (later BRP) Andrés Bonifacio (PF-7). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

USS Casco (AVP-12) at Kodiak after being salvaged and refloated, circa 12 September 1942. Casco was torpedoed by Japanese submarine HIJMS RO-61 while laying at anchor in Nazan Bay, Alaska. The resulting explosion killed five and wounded twenty of her crew.
