My Great Grandmother died from the Spanish influenza later in the day on Armistice Day, 11 November 1918, one of her two children had died a couple of days before. Before she died she heard the church bells ringing and was told the war was over. She took great comfort that her two brothers fighting in Europe would survive. Both of them returned home, but one was severely brain damaged from a gas attack and spent the rest of his life in the Roanoke VA hospital.
