WW2 USN United-Carr fastener kit - to fix items in this category

Recommended Posts

Hello folks,

I recently picked up this WW2 era USN United-Carr fastener kit ( NAF 1156-1 - Government Fastener Kit 4823 ) and I'm pretty happy to have it. 99.999% complete. My days of owning minty gear with missing snaps are over. The knife sheaths shown will soon look good as new as I now have the fasteners to replace the missing parts.

Best,

Rob

I'm confused. Aren't you supposed to have a male and female fixture to a suitable closure? I'm seeing two female parts. Am I missing something? Most impressive kit! You should be getting a lot of calls. Jack

Yes Jack, I obtained the sheaths as you see them now with only the female parts still attached. The male parts have not been attached yet but will be soon now that I have the kit.

Best,

Rob

I got one of those sets a number of years ago, too.

It seems a lot of the hardware is designed for use on cloth or webbing and won't handle the thickness of leather. Maybe you got a more complete kit. I know mine didn't have all the grommets.

If you figure out what the ball-shaped items are as shown in the top right corner of the first photo, please let me know. I just can't make sense of them!

Oh - GREAT find! I think you'll be glad you have it.

Nice find.I have a hand tool and order the snaps from Dot/Scovill.The dies can get spendy.

I have a small business making rifle slings, belts, and a few other items, mostly for the local SEAL Teams and I order snaps and such from DOT and Index Fasteners but now I can repair my WW2 era items with original WW2 era fasteners. I didn't want to put modern snaps on the above posted knife sheaths.

Best,

Rob

Those are the caps or "buttons" for the "Anzo" style snap, the rest of the set is shown in the compartments below in the same right side row.

Almost every fastener in this kit can be used with leather.

Best,

Rob

Hello, new to the forum, found it while researching a NAF 1156-1 kit that I found in my father's items. Would anyone have an idea of a fair price to the buyer and seller on something like this? It looks to pretty complete, it weighs a ton. Thanks for your input! Bart

Good morning Spike, thanks for the interest in the kit. It is for sale, but I do not know the value, was hoping someone on the forum would be able to help with that. I have one local offer already, waiting to see what I learn before I let it go. If you would like to make an offer, that would be great. Shipping on this will be high so I would need to know what city and state, zip you want it shipped to to get you the cost.  Thanks!

Great find, worth quite a bit as most of the hardware is there. Believe someone on the G503.com forum has a couple of these. The snaps are in high demand for those restoring/repairing and making webgear. It looks like you have most of the setting tools too! Cool
