Cold War- I was issued a pair like this in 1971 as a ground radio technician. Green wool tight fitting gloves could fit inside these black leather shells.

Here are the WWII A-11 gloves from the 303rd web site...similar to the M1949, but the inserts are a rust color wool, and the wrist strap goes around the wrist

Gloves like this were not restricted to just pilots. Everybody got a pair for cold weather. I still have mine that I was issued in 1966. Same as what you show but black leather glove with a grey wool insert.

So neither WWII or aircrew specific.

We were each given a pair in ROTC in 1985. Loved em. Still available surplus as the D3-A.

I could do a side by side comparison but that isn't really necessary. Another big difference, besides color and strap, is the way the two middle fingers are attached. Look where they are sewn at the palm and inside of the index and pinky fingers. Not that way on the A-11s. Elsewhere the type of seams are different as well.

So, similar as a glove shape should be, but not the same thing at all.

Dave
