Hello
I am looking for information on the ejection seat Martin Baker MK GU5-2 / 1962

Is it a rare ejection seat?
Apparently there are not that many complete seats anymore?

Is it called MK 5 in the language aviation?

Hi,

Well I think most ejection seats in civilian hands are rare these days. I own two and finding parts isn't easy.

The MB Mk 5 was used on many 50s and 60s U.S. aircraft. The U.S. Navy TF-9 Cougar comes to mind but there was many others as well. Do you have any photos you can post?

Hi Belt1,

Well, you start the post with GRU-5 and the text says GU-5-2. (-2 indicates back seat)

The GU-5 is the German version used in the T-33 aircraft. There are still some of these around.

The Greek AF also got several former German T-33's there is an example of this seat in the Deklia museum in Athens as well.

The GRU-5 seat was used on the early A-6A Intruders. (and a bit harder to find these days)

Cheers,

Ron

Hello and thanks.

it is written on the ISSUE 22 nameplate. Which means that ?

I can not find good sample photos on the internet. Do you have a link where you can see the seat completely.

Hi,

I am still not sure if you mean the GRU-5 or the GU-5?

GRU-5 found here:

GU-5 found here:

Let me know,

Ron

Here is an image of one currently for sale (locally in Europe)

In regard of your questions, the Mk.5 family of seats has a lot of siblings:

GT-5 (German for the F-86)

GU-5 (German for the T-33)

GRU-5 (USA for the A-6 Intruder)

Mk.J5D (USA Mohawk)

Mk.F5 (USA F-8 Crusader)

and some more...

This kind of seat is not very rare in Europe (Germany) and they show up every now and then on German Ebay for instance.

Complete ones (correctly outfitted with the original components) might go up to around 1200 dollars.

Cheers,

Ron
