chcole1 Posted November 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2017 Just saw this on EB. Collar disks aren't my area of collecting but I was just curious. Is this a legit disk or some kind of fantasy item? Was a unit officially known as a Crack Company? Chris
Allan H. Posted November 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2017 It is a real disk and rather uncommon. I would suggest that you find a copy of Scipio's collar brass book, or see what Emerson says about the disk as far as what units wore these disks, but I have seen a couple of them worn on WWI 89th Division uniforms. Besides the different colored sections between the legs of the "W" in their SSI which denoted differnt units, you will sometimes find these patches with white panels in the outer section of the patches. These white panels denoted "Best Company" which was called "Crack Company," or Best Battalion, in another panel of the patch. The best company in the best battalion would have two white panels in their patches. Hope this helps. Allan
