80thdivcollector Posted November 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2017 There are many places to visit in Switzerland: 1. The Swiss Air Force Museum for example. Based in Dübendorf on a former AFB you can go on a sightseeing flight over Switzerland with a JU-52 from WWII. www.airforcecenter.ch 2. You can visit one of over 30 Fortresses from WWII. Most of them have also a militaria / souvenir shop. But during the winter session most of those museums are closed because of the cold temperatures in the caverns. www.fort.ch 3. Visit the Kambly Cookie Factory. They produce the swiss army crackers / cookies. At the factory is a outlet store where you can taste the +/- 100 sorts of different crackers / cookies. Bring your kids there, they will love you... www.kambly.com 4. You like sweets? Come to the chocolat frey factory. Take a tour to the factory and taste all kinds of candy. Don't forget to buy some chocolate for your wife. This company make also the swiss army chocolate made from the left overs from the production mixed with cereals. www.chocolatfrey.ch/en 5. In Luzern is not only a great lake where you can travel around with an old Steamship and the famous Kappelen bridge. There is also the Löwendenkmal, who commemorate the swiss guards of the French king who died during the French revolution. There is also the Bourbaki Museum. 1871 the French Army fleed to Switzerland after the lost the war with Germany. Some 87'000 Men came to Switzerland. The Museum show on a 360° degree painting, almost 120 meters long / 12 meters high, the moment when the French crossed the swiss border. www.bourbakipanorama.ch/en/ 6. During WWII the swiss government buried all US Military Personnel, either died from sickness or KIA when their planes crashed, at Münsingen, Canton Bern. 1948 those dead where repatriated to the US. Today only a flagstaff with the stars and stripes and a bronze plaque commemorate that sacred place. In Switzerland are many private monuments that commemorate crash sites from WWII. Nearly 238 planes crashed / landed in Switzerland during WWII. www.warbirds.ch Kind regards from snowy Switzerland, Roland

80thdivcollector Posted November 21, 2017 Share #8 Posted November 21, 2017 The Panzermuseum is within the Perimeter of the Tank Corps Barracks. You have to ask the Guard at the Entrance Gate for Permission. The Jagdpanther, Königstiger and some other WWII Tanks where moved to the Festungsmuseum Reuenthal a couple of years ago. The Panzermuseum is a Open Air Museum. Rain and Snow had damaged a lot of the Substance of the Tanks. So they where moved for Restoration and later donated to the Festungsmuseum. At the Militärmuseum, a part of the Festungsmuseum, you can visit the MOWAG Tank Collection. But unfortunately the Museum is closed during the Winter month. www.festungsmuseum.ch/englisch/
