My first M-1 Garand

I received this M-1 from the CMP a few weeks ago. I hoped for one that was close to WW2 era that was a shooter. I'm very pleased with what I received.

I know from the serial numbers that the receiver is from March of 43 and the barrel from June 46. Only cartouche marks are the Ordinance Wheel and the "P" proof mark with serifs.

I haven't had a chance to strip it down yet, but plan to soon. If anyone can help me with dating the stock and the rest of the rifle, I'd really appreciate it. Also, any suggestions for what to look for once I break it down, so I can date it, that would be great too.

Chris

Nice looking rifle. What grade did you purchase. I know if you google your question about parts I believe you will find your answer. I have a M1 book somewhere amount my gaggle of books that I believe have lists of parts ranges but I'm not sure where it is right now. This link might be of some help.

Did you buy enough HXP M2 to feed her? I'm very interested in seeing a target after you take her out for an exercise.

I did pick up some Sellier & Bellot ammo for it. Hoping to brave the Northern IL cold and get out to the 200-yard range this weekend. I'll share the results if I do–unless it's too embarrassing.

Great looking rifle. I see you got a lock-bar sight!

The stock with that eagle with three stars cartouch, I believe dates from the 1950s.

Beautiful one Chris! Glad you received such a nice one from CMP. Excellent lock bar sight as well! I receive mine in May-- SA '43 dated receiver and '44 barrel with lacquered, taped, and dented furniture. Looking forward to the range report!

Congratulations! I went through the CMP process myself a year or two ago and because of this I enjoy my M1 even more than if I bought it on backpage. I hope you do too.
