pzjgr Posted December 27, 2017 Share #13 Posted December 27, 2017 My Dad was assigned as a Radarman aboard the Interdictor during his last year in the Navy, after a 3 year Far East stint with COMSVTHFLT...He served under Schoech and Moorer....when he received his orders home, Moorer looked at them, and told my dad "None of my boys should have to serve on a :)ing garbage scow like that, say the word, and I will cancel these and keep you in FLAGPLOT"...my dad was looking forward to getting back to the land of round eye's after 3 years in the Far East, so he took the Interdictor. He said it was really the best duty he had....really good chow, lots of room, basketball courts in the hold.... I have a patch, and a metal coat of arms (for a plaque I would guess) tucked away too...

Salvage Sailor Posted June 18, 2021 Share #19 Posted June 18, 2021 USS LOCATOR (YAGR-6) Guardian class radar picket ship in service 1956 to 1965 Easy to date these Japanese patches as she was only designated at YAGR-6 from 1956 to 1958. These are both Japanese made patches from the same source but one is still stiff with vibrant colors and the other is shrunken and floppy from wash and wear. This is the patch in 'as-new' condition. This is the worn patch removed from a jacket 'as-new' on the left, washed and worn on the right It took a very long time to find these patches regardless of the condition.
