wartimecollectables.com Posted November 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2017 I recently had the good fortune to purchase a great WWII ATC collection. It included a full set of the wings.
wartimecollectables.com Posted November 2, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted November 2, 2017 FYI You may or may not know, the ATC wing pattern was based on the badge of the somewhat secretive aviators club known asye Anciente and Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen
wartimecollectables.com Posted November 2, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted November 2, 2017 The collection included some "mystery ATC wings" If anyone can help with solid i.d. I'd appreciate it! This is a fine AE Co. ATC wing but constructed as or cut down to by a professional into a half wing.Doubt its a sweetheart pin, likely made to be worn by someone in a flight position not covered by the 3 designated half wings? wartimecollectables.com Posted November 2, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted November 2, 2017 This is a standard wartime original ATC wing but has been silver plated?
wartimecollectables.com Posted November 2, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted November 2, 2017 My last ATC mystery wing. A wartime original Meyer sterling pinback Observer wing with the ATC crest applied to the front. Similar design obviously to the Air Ferry Command wing but period done and no AFC title. There was a similar one, same design but done on a different wing base, posted on the forum awhile back with no solid i.d.
DMD Posted November 2, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 2, 2017 FYI You may or may not know, the ATC wing pattern was based on the badge of the somewhat secretive aviators club known as ye Anciente and Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen I think it was based on the Western Airlines wings. wartimecollectables.com Posted November 2, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted November 2, 2017 I think it was based on the Western Airlines wings. I based my information on the details given in a 1944 article on the ATC and the same information in the wartime National Geographic insignia issue. wartimecollectables.com Posted November 3, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted November 3, 2017 I think it was based on the Western Airlines wings. Again, I'm just going by the only references I have, wartime publications.
