CW4AFB Posted November 12, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 12, 2008 Ken---I thought you might like to see some of the real deal circa 1976... in the first photo you can appreciate that we didn't have enough cold weather gear so they let us buy some hats and gloves locally---nice "uniform" look huh? we went out of our way to buy the most colorful hats and gloves we could find--it passed for humor back then in the second photo you can see that we had to remove the covers from our gamma goats to make them "amphibious"...the mummy CPL on the left served with me in Cuba also and ended up the best man at my wedding, the SGT in the middle was a golden gloves boxer from pittsburgh and the guy on the right was a CPT...I don't think he rode in a Gamma Goat.... the 3rd photo shows some of the Norwegian troops we worked with in Steinkjer---we later had a USMC Helicopter land in that center area and break the windows in those buildings that were really a school and just borrowed for the exercise... ooops the 4th photo shows the pitch of the deck of the USS Austin off Norway
CW4AFB Posted November 12, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 12, 2008 and just to show you my camera wasn't broken, heres a picture from the Austin as we got back to the US coast near Morehead city and the helicopters flew off home....if memory serves, we got back to LeJeune just in time for the MC Birthday---the 201st by the way, Happy 233rd Birthday to all the brothers Semper Fi
