This ammo box was located in Georgia a few years ago. Imagine the surprise when opened. As an added bonus, the grouping came with complete vet provenance.

AHHHH. Wow. Wow. Love this so much. Thanks for sharing. I found a German medics crate a few years ago used by a GI from the 116th Evac. Hospital as his ship home box....sadly mine was empty. I still love the crate though.

Sadly there were no capture papers. Having them would have been the icing on the cake.

 

Based on the research performed and the vet’s memoirs, it was determined these items were captured in the Metz, France area.

There were two Knights Crosses in the map case. Just kidding ?

These are the only two I can find. I remember the contents being: Canteen, small stove, assault pack, helmet, cap, a few pins/badges, photo album, misc. GI issued items.

WOW! I especially love that M43 cap. Looks like you can see some actual use and wear although its in excellent condition.

These items were also in the discovery. If I'm not mistaken, Chester is the guy sitting on top of the bunker.
