rd12 Posted October 24, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2017 Anyone who has some time to spare in Phoenix should stop by Wesley Bolin Plaza outside the State Capital Building. Many different memorials to AZ veterans of all eras. warguy Posted October 24, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2017 They just dedicated an expanded monument to the USS AZ that presents two original WWII battleship guns on each side of a walkway. Quite impressive, I have only seen it once briefly. If I recall correctly, the name of all lost that day are represented on small metal tags. The area is also home to the states Fallen Police Officer Memorial. It really is a beautiful park just in front of our Capitol and worth seeing. Kevin I am eagerly collecting Pre-WWII USMC material. Any Marine Corps Span Am era, WWI, Banana Wars, or China Marine related material is especially sought after. Let me know if you have something you want to part with.
rd12 Posted October 24, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted October 24, 2017 Yes, here is the 14in tube from the USS Arizona. In the background is a 16in tube from the USS Missouri. These are to commemorate the beginning and the end of WW2. *Note* the 14in tube was not on the AZ when she was attacked at Pearl Harbor. The tube was off of the ship being relined.
