Help with Unknown WW1 Bag

Adding the pouch's dimensions or a scale in the photos might help identify it.

 

do not have a tape around so here it is next to a canteen for scale. Thank you for reminding me

There are a number of possibilities that this bag could have been used for. Personal effects bag or ditty bag, comes to mind right away, a possible muzzle cover for a small artillery piece or perhaps a Lewis gun muzzle cover. I would guess that the E would have something to do with either E Company, E Battery, E Troop for infantry, artillery or a cavalry unit..

 

Just guesses but maybe this will help..
