mwesson030 Posted October 24, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2017 Ive had this for a while now, but I thought you guys might like to see it. Edit: just a heads up, the mbu 14 is not original to the helmet.
mwesson030 Posted October 24, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted October 24, 2017 There are some interesting things with this helmet that I have noticed. The first thing is that there appear to be three holes drilled into the top of the helmet for some sort of mount, but they were taped over. mwesson030 Posted October 24, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted October 24, 2017 In addition, the helmet also had a boom mike attached to it at some point.
mwesson030 Posted October 24, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted October 24, 2017 And finally, the strangest thing about the helmet (in my opinion) the leather near the oxygen mask receivers was cut away.
mohawkALSE Posted October 24, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2017 Whats the date of mfg on the helmet? The earlier ones had the mounting holes for the Catseye NVG system. The Depending on how late it was used that helmet might have also had the anti-snag kit installed for the bayonet receivers with those cut outs in the leather. horridohutch Posted October 25, 2017 Share #7 Posted October 25, 2017 And finally, the strangest thing about the helmet (in my opinion) the leather near the oxygen mask receivers was cut away. May have been cut by the PRs to allow for the proper ( flat ) seating of the mask receivers.... just a thought. Nice helmet. I would have been so tempted to research the name on the back of the helmet.... not so much anymore.

boxerdogi Posted October 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted October 26, 2017 If you scroll down and read Horridohutch's tread, you'll see why research can sometimes backfire.
mohawkALSE Posted October 26, 2017 Share #10 Posted October 26, 2017 Id say 95 would be early enough to still have the Catseye NVG mounting holes. I found this caution from the Gentex installation guide for the anti-snag kit for the bayonet receivers so Id assume it explains the trimmed edgeroll: " Ensure that the edgeroll leather is either trimmed or pushed back so that the backplate will lie flush against the inside of the helmet shell." You can buy those anti-snag kits from Gibson-Barnes. Was thinking about getting a set for one of my 55P helmets to keep it looking highspeed.
