hhbooker2 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Share #58 Posted November 11, 2008 1886 United States Navy Uniform Regulations showing the plate on navy rates for Master-At-Arms (Petty Officer 1st Class) and Boatswain's Mate (Petty Officer 1st Class). Chief Petty Officer did not exist at this time, not until 1893. Master-At-Arms (PO1) had three chevrons with three arcs while other PO1 wore a diamind (lozenge) with their specialty mark embroidered directly into the diamond share cloth. The artwork is now faded, but it was probably more like this with the colours more rich and vivid.
