Hey Jay, Post 1950- this insignia as a metal badge was not authorized for wear until Sep 1950, all of the WW2 examples are cloth! Though these are almost always sold on ebay and other sites as being from WW2.

Officers had gold dolphin pins in WWII. Enlisted had cloth until the silver dolphin pin became standard.

Lighting is bad, but they look gold to me. Hallmark also indicates gold filled. All consistent with WW2 examples.

Nice WWII era Officer's Submarine badge Jay! Thanks for posting.

I've seen this same WWII era badge with the variant "VHB" hallmark as well...

I'm gonna pile on here and state that yes,those indeed look gold.Sweet badge,one day I hope to add one to my collection;I keep getting outbid :lol:

High Flight

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silver wings;

Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there

I've chased the shouting wind along and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious, burning blue

I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,

where never lark, or even eagle flew;

and while, with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
