mohawkALSE Posted October 1, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2017 Had been looking for a few years for a more uncommon Mk2 Life Preserver, the US Army marked type for my early Vietnam era OV-1 Mohawk gear, Finally found a few over a couple year span that were fair prices. All 3 had the dye markers and shark chaser still packed inside, and 1 of them still even had the MK13 flares. Army aircrews, especially OV-1 crews wore these in the early to mid 60s before the LPU-2 replaced them. I know a guy that had 1 side accidentally inflate on him while flying a Mohawk and he had to use his MC-1 knife to cut and deflate it. Anyways here are some pics of the best condition one I have that is packed with all the goodies.

mohawkALSE Posted October 1, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted October 1, 2017 The MK-13s are 1961 dated with the paper caps. Last pic is of a 73d Avn Co OV-1A from the mid 60s. I know the pic is resized smaller but you can see the pilot being briefed is wearing one. Ive seen the pic larger where you can read the US Army on the rear of the Mk2 and he appears to be wearing a M1952A frag vest under it.
