Brig Posted September 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2017 I've found some very nice birds over the years in very horrible states of repaint...luckily, I have found that nail polish remover, Q-Tips, and a crap ton of time and elbow grease can work wonders. I found this ugly thing recently...between the horrible paint job and poor images, it went largely unnoticed...
Brig Posted September 20, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted September 20, 2017 After about 8 hours of rubbing and scrubbing with nail polish remover and Q-Tips... Unfortunately, the post and prongs are gone, but it's a neat variant with the area between the legs pierced

teufelhunde.ret Posted September 21, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2017 Salty! Just what you would expect from real field use, just what I like the best. I'll leave the collecting of new old stock and garrison use emblems to others...

Dozer521 Posted September 22, 2017 Share #8 Posted September 22, 2017 Tim, do you think the hole between the legs is original or trenched? TK
Brig Posted September 23, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted September 23, 2017 Tim, do you think the hole between the legs is original or trenched? TK I believe original...no damage to legs, they were designed to be split more than your average dress helmet emblem Post 6 here shows another with the piercing, albeit smaller... http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/9799-1892-usmc-enlisted-spiked-helmet-ega/?hl=%2Bspiked+%2Bega
