This was a sleeper I just picked up. It was earlier posted by me back on July of 2021, posting #430 on page 18. I believe it was posted above $50 and wasn't touched. It was re-listed at a pretty reasonable price and closed today.  An odd ball, but still kind of cool.

I think there is going to be a fight over this one, USS Gambier Bay, CVE-73, named to M. Montgomery.

It appears to be an early style, but has surely got to be a commemoration buckle due to the ship's history. See below from wiki:

USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73) was a Casablanca-class escort carrier of the United States Navy.[1] She was sunk in the Battle off Samar during the Battle of Leyte Gulf after helping to turn back a much larger attacking Japanese surface force. She was the only American aircraft carrier sunk by enemy surface gunfire during World War II.

Named for Gambier Bay on Admiralty Island in the Alaska Panhandle, she was originally classified AVG-73, was reclassified ACV-73 on 20 August 1942 and again reclassified CVE-73 on 15 July 1943; launched under a Maritime Commission contract by the Kaiser Shipbuilding Company, Vancouver, Washington on 22 November 1943; sponsored by Mrs. H. C. Zitzewitz, wife of Lieutenant Commander Herbert C. Zitzewitz, the Senior Naval Liaison Officer (SNLO) assigned to Kaiser's Vancouver Yard from the Navy's Bureau of Ships; and commissioned at Astoria, Oregon on 28 December 1943, Captain Hugh H. Goodwin in command.[1]

The ship was referred to as the "Bonus Ship" by yard personnel because she was the 19th carrier delivered in 1943. The yard had originally projected 16 carriers would be delivered before the end of 1943. However, in September the Navy asked the yard to increase that number by at least two more. To rally the workers, Kaiser initiated a campaign called "18 or More by '44" to meet the new challenge; being the 19th and last Kaiser-built carrier commissioned in 1943, Gambier Bay was dubbed the "Bonus Ship". No ships of her class survive today.

I knew this one would go high!  Congrats to the winner at $202.57

Info from the seller: You are very welcome! I got it from a friend who was in the Navy and traveled to the Philippines. This was a prototype to see if there was interest by other members in the Corvette club. It is one of one.

This Phelps buckle looks like it was originally offered and sold on a BIN around Aug 22nd for a much more reasonable price of $19.99. Pretty as it is, it's now reappearing / re-listed for an un-realistic offering at $49.99.

Current up on ebay,  Doyle E. Thomas. Typical P.I. scene like those carved into other; twin palms, hut, water buffalo, boat or out rigger.

Got a new buckle for the pile/stash yesterday.  ART DIXON with the Navy Officers crest. I think it maybe Hong Kong carved.  As "shiney" as it is, I'm leaning that way. I saw it in a mixed lot and decided to bid. Now I just got to spin the other 8 buckles that it came with to make it worth it.

Two Naval Aviators currently up on the 'bay'.

Phil Vietmeyer, U.S. NAVY. One with feathered frame. The other not. Probably two seperate cruises.

Naval Aviator Vietmeyer #2 69.95.jpg

I believe the top buckle is the older of the two and the feather frame buckle is typical of Vietnam era into the 70's.

Totally off my game, As I didn't even see these come up. Smaller monogram buckle and Aviation Electrician. The larger one was broke or not finished as the flipper thing in the back is missing.
