This type of buckle with that kind of lock mechanism started sometimes the 70s or 80s. The 40's to 60's are with loop hole for snap on belt.

Going to let this one pass as it's ending on the 'bay today. Still waiting to add a HD buckle to the pile, but not today.

Over the last month I sold off the dozen or so of these belt buckles from my collection.

Here's one I recently had Will create to commemorate my time in Saigon. I'll pass it on to my son or daughter.

Excellent job, Will!

Not me.  But I did buy this ugly but rare one without any engraving.

I think the solder drop, punch with a "C" in the middle, and "Dremel" scratches all over the top were someone experimenting.  Based on the back, I'd say its 1960s +/-

Another that sold today on the 'bay,   USS Hassayampa, Retail Services Specialist. It started at a really good opener, then sold for a pretty reasonable figure.

Latest sold on 'bay; Naval Surface Reserve Force, William J. Cashman

Nice buckle, a different subject than most generic or ships and planes.

I may have said it before, but if so, it bears repeating.  I don't have any of these buckles, but I'm loving seeing all the examples you folks are showing here. These buckles are all really cool.  Keep 'em coming.

Not many 1940s buckles sell on ebay anymore, but this one did show up.  Had to pay through the nose for it though...

Bill - Nice find.  I didn't even see that one show up in any of the completed auction searches I ran.  It must have flown under the radar.  Very cool!!!

Hey Ryan: Here is the ebay #234260896201 for the Tom Thompson buckle which sold Nov. 4th. I think it was Chris who was bidding against me....

I like the Shiner buckle. I'm not sure if I posted them before but here are two Masonic buckles from 1945

Bill - Thanks for sharing the Ebay number.  That has to be the coolest and oldest aerographer buckle I've seen to date.  It flew under my radar but have a 1948 dated aerographer buckle so I wouldn't have bid anyway but that being said yours is a nicer buckle.

Thanks for sharing the Mason buckles as well.  I've seen the L. E. Antonius one on Worthpoint but never have seen the F. E. Pipe one.  That sucker definitely has some saltiness to it.  Both are very nice.

Ebay has been having a bit of lull point on the buckles lately but it's always nice to see what turns up.

One of the bonus' of working nights is finding the occasional gem before it widely seen. Here is a little beaut I snagged on a BIN.

@philippinebuckles, those Mason buckles are pretty interesting.  @vforvictory1945, that grouping with the Shriners is impressive.

This one has been on ebay for a while. Is it stamped OR carved?

Similar style to the Philipp ones, but is it?

Had this buckle for about 25 years but never figured what the unit Blake served with.  The dice suggest a 34th, perhaps an aviation unit. The smoking skull is similar to USN VA-34/VFA-34 but without the top hat and cane. Also similar to the USAF 310th Fighter Squadron.

Any thoughts on unit and time period appreciated.

@FlyNavy02 Thank you for posting your two buckles.  Given the dice have 34 on them and the skull has a cigarette I'd lean with VA-34 or VFA-34.  The large oval Philippine "vanity" buckle also suggests USN (n>50 examples I know of) rather than USAF (just 2 examples I know of).  The solid thick metal oval without any cutouts also suggests an early vanity buckle which could be late 60s or early 70s.  VA-34 was in the Pacific in the late 60s.  "From May to December 1967, the squadron deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War aboard USS Intrepid. This was the squadron's first combat action since 1945. Attack Squadron 34 was disestablished on 29 May 1969." (Wikipedia).  When the the squadron was reestablished in 1970 as VFA-34 it looks like it basically was stationed to the Med rather than Pacific.  So I'd lean toward late 1960s pending further investigation.
