FortJohn Posted September 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2017 Picked up this clean M1880 helmet last week. Nice makers mark in the sweatband. It's staying in the collection. Thanks. Greg.

FortJohn Posted September 15, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted September 15, 2017 Thanks Dave. It's now the oldest piece of headgear I have. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
Slobo Posted July 15, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2019 I have never been in a position to inspect an M1880 helmet. Are the cork spacers between shell and liner moveable to fit the wearer's head, or fixed in the manufacturing process?
aef1917 Posted July 15, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 15, 2019 It's actually an 1889 pattern helmet, which has a slightly different brim shape than the 1880 pattern. These are some of my favorite US helmets, and I've never seen one marked as a subcontract piece to Ridabock. Very cool.
warguy Posted July 15, 2019 Share #10 Posted July 15, 2019 Nice, I have its twin. I display it with Span Am vintage Marine Corps items as the Marines also wore it during that time frame. I have always liked this model helmet. Missed a chance at an original white lacquered chin strap to put on it years ago and have regretted missing the opportunity ever since. ScottG Posted July 16, 2019 Share #11 Posted July 16, 2019 Well if Kevin has its twin, then I have the triplet. Very nice helmet! Scott
